Find more Walk in San Francisco, CA
Ages ago, my real estate agent* ended up with a copy of Stairway Walks of San Francisco, and after five years, we finally went on one.
First off, this is a charming and excellent book, useful for a cheap and fun way to be a tourist in your own town. We took walk #21, A Mondrian Walk in Dolores Heights. Even though I’d been through the area many times, it was usually in a car on the way somewhere else. Bakalinsky peppers the walks with fascinating facts about the architecture and the streets. I highly recommend this book.
I think it’s a give that a book about the hidden stairways in the city means tromping up and down some major hills, and we most certainly did. The walk was just over two miles, starting from the 20th street J line. It took us about two hours, but we also stopped a lot, to enjoy stellar views, take a break up stairs, and look at some very pretty houses.
I definitely feel like I got a workout today. I hope we can go on more soon!

I’ll admit - I’m frustrated. I know I’m not supposed to care about the numbers, but I do. I’m not keeping up with my promises to myself, and it’s easy to get angry with myself. I give myself a lot of excuses, between my off and on ankle pain, and my stres levels. But the truth is I’m just being lazy. I know what I need to do, and now I just need to do it.

Focus on for the next week: Not caring about numbers, and caring about energy instead
So I lost what I had gained? I suppose that’s a good thing, especially after the non-stop food fest at a friend’s baby shower on Sunday. I definitely feel more energetic, and I’ve been trying to walk every day, even if it’s only for 15 minutes.
The back half of the week definitely slowed down, mostly due to that blister. It’s healing VERY slowly, and even managed to bleed a little today. Gross! Here’s hoping that it’s all better for dance class tomorrow! No more sitting!
Even though it was tough not knowing the current choreographies we are working on, heading back to dance class was AWESOME. I have such fun with my dancers.
Injury report: butt, knee, ankle all held up. Wore and older pair of shoes and blistered off a nice chunk of both my feet. Not so bad.
Yesterday was what I like to call a Gilligan Day: what you think is going to be a short tour ends up being a whole adventure.
Jeremy* and I tramped around Yerba Buena/Treasure Island, climbing all the way to the top and seeing some extraordinary views of the Bay Bridge construction, as well as the rest of the bay area. We took a lot of circuitous routes around YB, as there are a LOT of “No Trespassing” signs. Then we wandered the desolate wasteland that is 90% of TI. After hours of walking, we finished off with some wine tasting. (There are a surprising number or wineries on that island.)
It was a lot of walking - according to my pedometer, over 17000 steps!
Injury report: All fine during the walk, though some knee soreness and right ankle tenderness upon waking the next morning. A bit of a sunburn to the nose.
* Which one? I’m not telling!
I made it over the hill! I decided to walk home from the library today (a 1.3 mile walk with a significant rise), making sure to walk along a bus line, just in case. No pain!

Focus on for the next week: moving regularly
I suppose this isn’t entirely surprising, not only did I not add extra movement to my week, I couldn’t do the usual dance classes. However, the glute/hamstring is feeling much stronger, so I anticipate moving around a lot more this week.
